Celebrating the Union of Romeo and Juliet

“Robert Downey Jr – The Wedding” combines present-day Hollywood with the timeless tale. Robert Downey Jr. is dressed in the robes of Friar Laurence, the orchestrator of Romeo and Juliet’s clandestine union. In the play, Friar Laurence reflects that “these violent delights have violent ends.”

Here, Alex imagines that the lovers are able to meet in blissful union rather than love being violently snuffed out by the whims of fate, the unruly ego and the demands made upon us by society. The artwork commemorates and celebrates this joyous wedding, no longer star-crossed and fated to die.
